I have not owned a backpack for years and must be careful due to my neck. I was shortly going to take a 25 day independent trip with my 3 closest friends to China and needed this as part of my luggage. I searched a lot online and went to REI too. I chose this pack, because of the reasonable cost, perfect size, lighter weight, quality, and number, size and arrangement of the compartments including the two convenient outside water bottle holders. I also am familiar with Rick Steves' Travels to Europe TV shows and know that he is personally involved in choosing products that will carry his name. The backpack was even better than expected, very comfortable to wear, and will last for many years. It did not even show any wear from my trip. I could not be happier.
