Utilizing a spring-loaded hinge, these all-purpose travel bags spring open to display a large 8 x 17 inch opening. Bags stay in the open position until you decide to close them - then spring shut. Each carpet bag features a rigid bottom board with brass studs to protect the bag along with rolled glove leather handles, brass trim, detachable shoulder strap and includes four 7 x 10 inch pockets sewn into lining. Carpet bag history: a small piece of luggage that was used in the mid 1800's. Carpet bags were carried by Abe Lincoln and Rhett Butler but were made famous by Mary Poppins. The bags were prevalent on the American scene for about 3 decades. Today, carpet bags are back. They have proven to be classic time travelers more dashing than ever.
